A wonderfully whimsical Hand-wound Punch & Judy Automaton. Capturing the charm and eccentricity of a traditional Punch and Judy show in miniature folk art form – English 1960’s.

Naively handmade, this unique piece features a lively puppet theatre scene complete with a cast of delightfully crude, hand-painted clay figures. At the center, the classic Punch and Judy characters spring into action including Me. Punch, Judy & Baby, Policeman, Clown and Crocodile. Simply wind the handle and watch as the puppets bob up and down, recreating the playful energy of a traditional seaside show. Alongside them stands a characterful puppet master, doubling as a drummer. The construction is rich in texture and personality, the wooden base supports a carefully arranged naturalistic setting, adorned with real pine cones, a sculptural tree branch, and foliage that frames the stage beautifully. A small, hand-lettered sign advertises the showtimes, lending an extra layer of narrative charm. The drummer Puppeteer and Mr Punch no longer move with the rest of the puppets – the mechanism is all there but it needs restringing.
