Victorian Country Club Sign
A superb Victorian carved oak shield with hand painted lettering, believed to be a sign from a Golf/Country Club C.1880.
Beautiful deep relief carvings to the large oak shield, including various swag details, grapes and a pineapple (both status symbols of friendship, generosity hospitality and wealth at the time). The hand painted writing & pointing hands are correct and of the same age as the shield. I believe the brass hooks to have been added later, possibly for use as a key or coat rack (easily removable if preferred). Totally unique, fantastic subject matter and incredibly decorative.
