Spanish Santos Statue 18th C.

A simply stunning Spanish santos statue of St. Anthony of Padua holding an infant Jesus, dating from the 18th century.

Beautifully made, hand carved from pine with a sculpted gesso  finish, superb original polychrome paint and glass eyes. The wonderful statue of infant Jesus has been made separately and  simply sits on a wooden peg located on St. Anthony’s left arm. The statue would have been displayed in a church or monastery for most of its life. Presented in good solid and original condition, particularly tidy for its age. Jesus is missing his right arm and there are minor signs of loss & cosmetic wear. A very desirable piece of religious art, fit to grace any  collection.
