French carved wood St. Vincent de Paul

A superb French carved wood statue of Saint Vincent de Paul, dating from the early 19th century.

Expertly carved from soft wood with a gesso layer and then the most amazing gilding and hand painted face. It stands on its own base with remnants of lettering remaining. It shows exceptional detail to the robes, hands and face. He is complete and in good solid condition with some age related cosmetic wear. Almost certainly form a church and rare piece of religious art.
