Edwardian Griffon Dog Portrait Signed
A charming and well executed portrait of a Brussels Griffon, signed and dated by the artist and presented in an exquisite gilt frame.
Painted in watercolour by professional artist ‘Alice Blanche Ellis’ who was most active & exhibiting from 1876-1883. This beautiful portrait was painted in 1905 and is signed & dated by Ellis in the bottom right hand corner. In the top left hand corner is an anagram which reads ‘P. Thom Ellis’ who was Alice’s brother, the portrait was most likely a gift to her brother and possibly of his dog. It’s a characterful depiction of a Griffon, originally bred for ratting, which displays well with a grey border and a stunning 19th century gilt frame & a glazed front. The portrait was previously sold through a London gallery. Offered in excellent all round condition.
