A magnificent écorche’ sculpture of a flayed man. Incredibly well made from plaster and resin with a a painted bronze finish. It is a good size example and incredibly detailed as well as highly decorative and sought after. It’s very heavy, stable and complete with some minor cosmetic wear and one repair to the hand. Dating from the second half of the 20th century.
An écorché is a figure drawn, painted, or sculpted showing the muscles of the body without skin, normally as a figure study for another work or as an exercise for a student artist. Some of the first well known examples of this work were by Leonardo Da Vinci.
