Carved wood ships figurehead
Category: Sold
An outstanding carved wood ships figurehead C.1780-1800, possibly slightly later.
Finely carved from teak and most likely French. It depicts a gentlemen in 18th century clothing, possibly a naval officer.
Lovely quality as to be expected, carved from one piece of timber and very heavy.
It’s well weathered and shows signs of age related wear but is complete other than the arms, which would have been carved separately and are usually first to go missing. It’s a fantastic piece of maritime history and displays incredibly well wall hung or simply leaning. A rare statement piece and good size example.
